Client: African American Student Centers of the Cal State Universities
The AASCs are committed to assisting African/African American/Black college students in successfully completing their degree programs. They provide retention and outreach programs and services that stimulate growth and development. The AASC is dedicated to preparing students for leadership and promotes academic excellence.
Objective:
During 2020, the pandemic put a halt to everything, including celebration of the accomplishments of many Black students. The students and faculty of Cal Poly Pomona saw the effect this was having on the students, and knew they needed to find a way to have a graduation celebration digitally that would benefit all Cal States.
Solution:
The Hamba Group lead by Adrienne Reed pulled together a team to create the nation’s first entirely digital Pan-African Graduation celebration. In my role as designer, I created all the promotional materials, along with shirts to send to the graduates and backgrounds to be used during the Zoom graduation so they students could represent their respective universities.
